The National Consumer Commission (NCC) welcomes the preservation order granted by the Gauteng Division of the High Court of South Africa in favor of the National Prosecuting Authority on 18 September 2024. The order was issued against Women Against Poverty and Hunger (WAPH), an alleged pyramid scheme, for a total amount of R1,535,040.00 (One million, five hundred and thirty-five thousand Rand and forty cents). This amount is held across three bank accounts belonging to WAPH and one account owned by its founder and promoter, Ms. Kelebogile Precious Phumo. The outcome stems from the collaboration between the NCC and the Asset Forfeiture Unit of the National Prosecuting Authority in addressing similar cases.
