The National Consumer Commission (NCC) hereby provides an update on the recall of 13 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace vehicles made available for sale from 30 April 2019 to 30 December 2019.

Volkswagen of South Africa informed the NCC that the recall is a result of the gas generator for the curtain airbag having been incorrectly produced. An incorrectly produced gas generator can lead to the function of the airbag and, therefore, the protective effect not working. It also cannot be ruled out that components of the gas generator housing could come loose and injure vehicle occupants.

Consumers are required to contact any VWSA-approved dealership for a check and, if necessary, replacement of the affected component.
