Purpose of the job

To render investigation services to ensure effective enforcement of the Consumer Act in accordance to the National Consumer Commission priorities.

Key Responsibilities

1.Provide input  in the development  of  strategies and policies for the successful  investigation of complaints  Provide input in the development of strategy 1.2    Provide assistance in the development of complaints  investigation processes and  procedures 1.3    Provide advice and guidance on relevant consumer legislation and regulations that exist in South Africa and other countries 1.4    Provide assistance in identifying, developing and maintaining enforcement strategies
2. Undertake investigations into contraventions of prohibited conduct and   unfair business practices in accordance with the CPA & Consumer Affairs Act 1.1Conduct detailed evaluation of complaints  to asses validity, jurisdiction, gravity and priority 1.2 Conduct investigations in accordance with the provision of the Consumer Protection Act and Unfair business practices Act 1.3 Secure evidence in accordance with NCC processes 1.4  Collect  & present evidentiary material 1.5 Conduct negotiation and conclusion of Consent Orders and the issuing of Compliance Notices 1.6  Obtain all necessary approvals 1.7 Make recommendations to Senior Investigator.
3 Implementation of strategies, policies and procedures for the investigation and enforcement of Consumer Protection Act & Consumer Affairs Act Implement  processes, tools and strategies for investigationsConduct research into best practice and benchmark the directorates activitiesGive in puts in the implementation  of  policy  to enhance  enforcementProvide assistance with research on national & international consumer law Promote effective internal communication and team buildingReport regularly and in accordance with internal processes on matters dealt with
4. Facilitate resolution of matters through negotiation, compliance notices and consent orders Resolve matters where relevant and necessary by way of negotiation, secure consent orders in accordance with NCC processes issue compliance notices where relevant in accordance with NCC processes
5. Provide monthly and quarterly reports 5.1Furnish regular reports on investigations 5.2  Draft  investigation reports and compile submissions 5.3  Report on consent orders 5.4 Report on compliance notices
6.  Monitor  the implementation of systems and protocols 6.1 Monitor compliance arising issue of compliance notices 6.2  Assess the impact of the protocols on consumers 6.3  Review and make recommendations for improvement

Minimum Qualifications: National Diploma/ B Degree in Law  and EB divers licence.

Minimum Experience : 3-5 Years Legal Administrative experience

Training: Computer Literacy: MS Office Package and knowledge of regulatory framework
